Carolyn Koll
Carolyn J. Rankin Koll, 87, of Avalon, wife of the late Richard F. Koll Sr., died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010.
Mrs. Koll was retired from Kaufmann's department store, where she had worked for many years. She was an avid card player and was a member of the same card club for more than 50 years.
She is survived by three children, Richard F. Koll Jr. and his wife Naomi of Ross Township, Kathleen S. Koll of Bellevue and Patricia L. Bookser of Avalon; her sister, Alice A. Egler and her husband Charles; three grandchildren, Jennifer L. Koll, Richard F. Koll III and his wife Susan and Erin M. Stocker and her husband Jace; four great-grandchildren, Ethan, Nicholas, Adam and Olivia Stocker; her sister-in-law, Margaret Koll; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three siblings, William Rankin, Florence Muckle and Alvina Junker.
Friends were received at the Orion C. Pinkerton Funeral Home, Avalon, where services were held on Thursday. Memorials are suggested to Animal Friends or Trinity Lutheran Church.
Thomas Cullen
Thomas Arthur Cullen, 63, of Bellevue, died Monday, Feb. 1, 2010 in Allegheny General Hospital.
Mr. Cullen was a Vietnam veteran. He was a longtime employee of Shultz Ford in Wexford. He enjoyed golfing and watching football.
He is survived by two children, Nicole and Thomas Cullen; five siblings, Charles "Butch" Cullen, Susan Downey, Judy Reese, Patricia Nicoletti and Colleen Cullen; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial was held at Shultz Ford in Wexford, on Friday. Burial was in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Memorial donations are suggested to a favorite charity. Arrangements were made by King Funeral Home.
Emma Zawojski
Emma Zawojski, 87, of Bellevue, wife of the late Felix Zawojski, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010.
Mrs. Zawojski worked at Suburban General Hospital or more than 20 years.
She is survived by three children, Shirley "Cheryl" Hoak and her husband Larry, Cynthia McCullough and her husband Patrick and Cathy Bullion and her husband Butch; her sister, Ann Wolbert; and seven grandchildren, Correna Pfeiffer and her husband Mitchell, Jennell Wolfe and her husband Nathan, Brandon Hoak, Autumn, Brittany and Seth Bullion and Chelsea McCullough. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Theresa and Mary.
Friends were received at the Orion C. Pinkerton Funeral Home, Avalon. A Mass of Christian Burial was held in the Church of the Assumption on Friday. Burial was in Christ Our Redeemer Cemetery.
John Gray
John Edward Gray, 83, of Bellevue, husband of the late Mary Jo Melber Kolechta Gray, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served on the USS Prince William, an escort carrier, during World War II. He was a graduate of Perrysville High School. He worked at Kaufmann's department store in the shoe department. He was an avid reader of history.
He is survived by his stepson, William Kolechta of Plano, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward L. and Ethel Robertson Gray.
Friends were received at McDonald-Linn Funeral Home, Avalon, until the time of services on Friday. Burial was in Allegheny Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Joseph Freyvogel
Joseph M. "Jody" Freyvogel, 57, of Brighton Heights, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010.
Mr. Freyvogel was a retired chemical engineer and a member of the American Society of Chemical Engineers and the American Society of Testing Materials. He was self-employed as the owner of Baked For You. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War.
He is survived by five siblings, Richard J. Freyvogel Jr., Mary Harriet and her husband Al, William Rodgers and his wife Rebecca, Kevin and his wife Cindy, Brendan and his wife Joanne and Nancy C. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard J. and Mary Rodgers Freyvogel.
There was no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial was held in St. Cyril of Alexandria Church. Memorials are suggested to St. Cyril of Alexandria School. Arrangements were made by O'Brien Funeral Home, North Side.
Edward Hill
Edward J. Hill, 84, of Brighton Heights, husband of the late Marie Hill, died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010.
Mr. Hill was a retired detective with the Pittsburgh Police Department. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Vella and Howard "Bud" Schubel; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Norman Hill and Ruth Conley.
Friends were received at the Lawrence T. Miller Funeral Home, Bellevue. A Mass of Christian Burial was held in St. Cyril of Alexandria Church on Friday.
