Edna Bernauer
Edna C. Bernauer, 90, of Avalon, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009.
Ms. Bernauer was a past matron of O.E.S. Norwood-Herrington Chapter #356.
She is survived by two brothers, Kenneth W. Bernauer and his wife Wilma of Avalon and Leonard L. Bernauer and his wife Barbara of Yardley, PA; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Elenora Schweitzer Bernauer; and four siblings, Frederick Jr., Glenn H., Clara A. and Velma M. "Sue" Bernauer.
Friends were received at McDonald-Linn Funeral Home, Avalon, where services were held on Saturday. Memorial contributions are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church, 638 California Ave., Avalon, PA 15202.

Betty Jane Gallagher
Betty Jane "B.J." Gallagher, 84, of Bellevue, formerly of Coraopolis, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009 in Pavlovic Personal Care Home.
Ms. Gallagher was a member and elder at Bellevue United Presbyterian Church. She was a Coraopolis High School and West Penn School of Nursing graduate. She worked as a registered nurse at West Penn Hospital, Sewickley Valley Hospital and was company nurse at Koppers for more than 40 years.
She is survived by her sister, Sarah Fisher; her cousin, Neal Roush; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John W. and Lillian Fay Roush Gallagher; and her sister, Lois Hermansen.
Friends were received at Copeland's Coraopolis Funeral Home until the time of services on Saturday. Burial was in Beaver Cemetery.

Merlin Webb
Merlin R. "Merl" Webb, 86, of Ohio Township, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009.
Mr. Webb served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant first class. He was past monarch of Islam Grotto.
He is survived by his wife, Mariana Paslian Webb; three children, Michael Webb and his wife Phyllis, Michelle Paschi and her husband Kurt and Marilyn Hadley; four grandchildren, Timothy and Nicole Webb, Sarah and Ashley Paschi; and a great-granddaughter, Rylee Anne Marie Dreves.
There was no visitation. Donations are suggested to Make A Wish Foundation, 707 Grant St., Pittsburgh, PA 15219-1908. Arrangements were made by Schellhaas Funeral Home and Cremation Services, West View.

Harriet Stewart
Harriet F. Stewart, 96, formerly of Bellevue and wife of the late James Stewart, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009.
She is survived by her daughter, Connie Melton of Florida; her niece, Alice Suckling and her husband John; and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Services and burial were private. Arrangements were made by the Orion C. Pinkerton Funeral Home, Avalon.

Charlotte Struhar
Charlotte Wojciechowski Struhar, 94, of Bakersfield, CA, formerly of North Side and Avalon and wife of the late Joseph F. Struhar, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009.
She is survived by four children, Lillian Burg and her husband Claude of Avalon, Dolores Brackett and her husband David of Bakersfield, Charles Struhar and his wife Mary Ellen of Sykesville, MD and Robert Struhar and his wife Cheryl of Virginia Beach,VA; two siblings, Henry Wojciechowski and Irene Campbell; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Joseph R. Struhar; her parents, Anthony and Anna Wojciechowski; and four siblings, John Warwick, Sophie Budney, Bertha Green and Jenny Shovich.
Friends were received at the Lawrence T. Miller Funeral Home, Bellevue. A. Mass of Christian Burial was held in the Church of the Assumption on Saturday.

Ruth Benner
Ruth M. Demmler Benner, 91, of Gibsonia, formerly of Emsworth and wife of the late David E. Benner, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009.
Mrs. Benner was a 1942 graduate of the Pennsylvania College for Women, now Chatham College. She was a longtime member of Ben Avon Presbyterian Church and was director of Christian education for 15 years and the head teacher of the nursery school. She enjoyed trips to Chautauqua and playing Bridge. She also painted watercolor cards.
She is survived by two children, Paul A. Benner and his wife Sandra and Jean E. Sowles and her husband Michael; her sister, Alice E. Demmler; two grandchildren, Krista Spencer and her husband Jason and Bryant Benner; and three great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter R. and Bertha Poerschke Demmler.
Friends are invited to a memorial service to be held in Community Presbyterian Church of Ben Avon. Donations are suggested to a favorite charity. Arrangements were made by Schellhaas Funeral Home, Bakerstown.

Joseph Polonchak
Joseph Andrew Polonchak, 76, of Zelienople, formerly of Ohio Township, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009.
Mr. Polonchak was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Harshberger Polonchak; four children, Monica Sharp and her husband Sam of Ross Township, Rhonda Glevicky and her husband Paul of Harmony, Yvonne Blythe and her husband Henry Stoops of Emsworth and Shawn Polonchak and his wife Patty of Polk; eight grandchildren, Kevin and Dean Sharp, Amber, Cassondra, Brittany and Autumn Glevicky, Amanda and Brad Polonchak; and six siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and his son-in-law.

Robert Quigley Jr.
Robert B. Quigley Jr. of Brighton Heights died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Smith Quigley; two children, Robert B. Quigley III and Beth Ann Quigley; six siblings, Ronald Quigley of California, Debbie Kutschbach and her husband Fred, Rose Schmitt and her husband Pete, Richard Quigley, Donna Schwab and Kevin Quigley and his wife Patty; his mother-in-law, Frances Smith; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert B. Sr. and Rosemary Fitzsimmons Quigley.
Friends were received at O'Brien Funeral Home, North Side. A funeral mass was held in Risen Lord Church on Thursday. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Joyce McCarthy
Joyce M. McCarthy, 83, of West View, wife of the late James McCarthy, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009.
She is survived by two children, Carol Miller and her husband Chris and Timothy McCarthy and his wife Joan; three brothers, Russ, Roy and Jack Carroll; three grandchildren, Benjamin and Erin McCarthy and Chelsea Miller; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard, Dick and Gene Carroll.
