Northgate girls halt section losing streak

By JIMMY SILAY

With two section games in a row, the Northgate girls' basketball team was hoping to stop their section losing streak at two.

Their first chance to stop the streak came against South Fayette. The girls played a strong first quarter to take the lead at 14-9, but saw a reversal of fortune in the second quarter. South Fayette held the team to only four points, which made the score at half, 21-18.

In the third quarter, both teams were more offensive then defensive. Each team gave up over 10 points. The third quarter ended with South Fayette in the lead 37-29.

In the fourth quarter, the girls tried to make a comeback, but ended up losing by 10, 45-35.

Though they lost, the girls had to be ready to play tough against Brentwood the next day. At first it looked as though the team was going to continue its section losing streak, because they were losing 10-7 in the first quarter, and 17-15 at the half. However, the team made a tremendous turnaround in the third quarter to take the lead into the fourth quarter at 30-21.

The last quarter was one of great anxiety due to the number of points that the team allowed Brentwood to score. Their lead was cut down to four by the end of the quarter, but the Flames still scored their second section win of the season 40-36.
