Sewer repair payments
Two payments for sewer repairs were authorized by Bellevue Council earlier this week.

Council approved, at its regular meeting on Sept. 1, a payment to Fleming-Walker, Inc. of $87,362.95 for sewer repairs. The repairs were mandated by the consent order aimed at cleaning up area municipalities' sewers.

Borough engineer John Rusnak told officials that the company will begin to line the sewers next week.

Council also approved an additional payment of some $11,000 for emergency repairs to sewer lines at the Bellevue Station, which were expected to begin on Wednesday.

Renovation update
The renovation project at the Bellevue borough building is nearing completion.

"We should be ready to go by the end of the month," director of administrative services Connie Flasher said at Tuesday's council meeting.

Flasher said that the elevator shaft was put in and the elevator mechanics had been installed and run, but noted that people can not use the elevator until it is inspected by the Department of Labor and Industry.

She also reported that the flooring has been put in at the building and that the painting was about half-way done.

She said that the next thing to accomplish is getting some new furniture, including new desks for the council chambers.

Committee chairs
Following council member Jerry Walter's resignation, Bellevue Council president Kathy Coder has named new committee chairs.

Council member Mike Kutschbach will take Walter’s position as chairman of the public safety committee, and no longer will serve as public works committee chairman. That position will be filled by council member Jane Braunlich.

To insure third ward representation on all of council’s standing committees, Coder named Lisa Blaney-Stewart to the safety committee, and Mark Helbling to the public works committee.

Council also approved a motion to advertise the now vacant third ward council seat.

Police department purchases
The purchase of office furniture and security cameras for the police department was approved by Bellevue Council at its regular meeting on Tuesday.

The borough will buy two desks and three office chairs that could cost up to $2,000.

The indoor security cameras could cost up to $1,300, and are for the area around the jail cells.

Asbestos removal
A payment to AGX Inc. for additional asbestos removal from the borough building was approved by Bellevue Council at its regular meeting on Tuesday.

The borough will pay the company $1,350. The removal was part of the current building renovations.

Conferences
Two Bellevue borough officials will attend the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs Leadership Conference on Oct. 17-18 in Erie.

At its Sept. 1 meeting, council unanimously approved director of administrative services Connie Flasher and council member David Gillingham to attend the conference, which will cost a total of $560.

Council also gave Flasher permission to attend a labor and employment law seminar on Sept. 16-17. The seminar will cost $200.
