Shared passes?
Shared services at the Bellevue and Avalon swimming pools might someday go a step further.

This year, for the first time, the two boroughs are sharing a pool manager and lifeguards, coordinating programs and moving personnel between the pools as necessary.

Bellevue parks committee chairman Steve Mosolansky, speaking at the pre-council meeting held July 24, suggested allowing pass holders at both pools to visit the other pool at no additional charge.

Pools manager Liesl Klicker said that dual passes would work well for Bellevue if put into effect now. Most passes already have been purchased, she said, and Bellevue was likely to attract Avalon swimmers who would generate concession stand revenue.

Before next summer, however, she recommended making sure that both boroughs charge the same for season passes.

Director of administrative services Connie Flasher noted that Bellevue recently had honored Avalon passes when the neighboring pool was closed due to flood damage.

Council members Kathy Coder and Mike Kutschbach were absent.

Park re-bid
The Quaker Valley Council of Governments will solicit new bids for work at Avon Park that will be funded through a Community Development Block Grant.

Engineer Rob Arnold said that only one bid had been received for the project, and that it was for more than $41,000, or some $10,000 more than estimated.

Lane closures
Motorists can expect lane closures on the Parkway North (I-279) between the Bellevue/West View Interchange (Exit 14) and I-79 (Exit 20) this weekend.

The southbound (inbound) lanes will be down to one lane from 7 p.m. on July 26 until 2 p.m. on July 28 to allow for concrete patch work.

Only one northbound lane will be open from 7 p.m. on July 26 to 7 p.m. on July 27 while crews survey the area.

Sewer analysis
Kilbuck Township will pay Chester Engineers no more than $1,500 to analyze sewer flow data and determine if the township must perform work to comply with sewer rehabilitation mandates.

Engineer Rob Arnold told supervisors at their June 23 meeting that no plan for proceeding with compliance can be developed until the data is analyzed.

Supervisor Sue Merkner was absent.

Insurance savings
Kilbuck will save about $600 on insurance coverage in the coming year.

Supervisors chairman Russ Hardiman reported at the June 23 supervisors' meeting that two companies had submitted proposals for property and general liability insurance, with ESI Associates' bid coming in some $600 less than the other company's, as well as the current rates.

The supervisors voted unanimously to purchase the insurance at a total cost of $6,554.

Supervisor Sue Merkner was absent.

Easement release
Property easements along Newgate Road will be released by Kilbuck Township.

The easements originally were obtained for a sewer installation project that has since been abandoned.

The supervisors voted unanimously at their June 23 meeting to release the easements. Supervisor Sue Merkner was absent.
