Improve the Vue

Chuck Gohn, pastor of Bellevue Christian Church, spoke to Bellevue Council at its regular meeting on Aug. 24 to promote "Improve the Vue" Day, and to request the help of council in distributing flyers and information.

The day of community service will be held on Oct.9. Gohn said that organizers hope to recruit 300 to 500 volunteers from civic organizations to work on various improvement projects in Bellevue.
In addition to Bellevue Christian, other organizations currently participating are the Knights of Columbus, Rotary Club, Suburban General Hospital, Northgate Junior/Senior High School, and the local Fellowship of Ministries.

Council member Jane Braunlich expressed concern about liability if someone should be hurt while participating in the project. She also asked who would be supplying any needed supplies or materials. Gohn stated that while there is some risk, each person would sign a waiver of liability. That waiver was to be provided to the borough solicitor. In addition, each group of volunteers would have a person working with them who would be responsible for safety.

The projects would not involve high-risk work, Gohn said. Most of the volunteers will be working at Bellevue Memorial Park. Others will be painting curbs and picking up trash. With regard to supplies, Gohn told council that needed supplies would be provided through donations from home improvement stores, as well as donated funds.
