With nary an anarchist in sight, the Flames and the Antelopes focused their collective attentions Friday night on winning some football games. The effort worked out well for the 'Lopes, who remain undefeated, but not so well for Northgate, which remains winless.
The Avonworth team navigated their way around G-20 detours and road closures to reach Wilkinsburg, where they pulled down a 41-12 win. Jimmy Zubik continued his impressive play, scoring three touchdowns that included one on an interception. Jake Szolis, Mike Simmons and Brian Vales had touchdowns as well.
The second half was a time for future Antelope stars to earn a few stripes. Freshman offensive lineman Isaac Miller was up to the challenge, intercepting a Wilkinsburg pass.
Back in Bellevue, sophomore quarterback John Girvin took over in the second half facing a 26-0 Northgate deficit against Keystone Oaks. The Flames put 14 points on the board against the K.O. second team. A 38-yard pass from Girvin to Mark Wilson put the Flames in position for Joe Ellis to score on a 21-yard run. Pat Carr also scored, on a 5-yard run.
The final score was 47-14, Keyston Oaks.
