Avonworth running back Jimmy Zubik is the Class A Eastern Conference offensive player of the year. He also was named first team running back for the Eastern Conference All-Star team.

Other first team selections include offensive tackle Milton Loop, defensive lineman Mike Simmons, and linebacker Eddie Kurtz.

Second team selections include tight end Ben Kramer, offensive guard Matt Mamich and kicker Houston Hunt. Defensive second team selections are Mamich and Jeff Wehner.

Offensive honorable mentions are quarterback Tom Turnbull and lineman Scott Barlek. Defensive honorable mentions include backs Ryan Schmid and Brian Vales, and end A.J. Mang.

Three 'Lopes also made the Northern Area Football Coaches Association all-star team: Zubik, Turnbull and Mamich.

According to Avonworth head coach Jason Kekseo, who will be the head coach of the all-star team, the team includes players from various northern WPIAL teams, from Class A to Quad A.

The northern area team will play a game against all-stars from southern WPIAL and City League teams on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 1 p.m. at Cupples Stadium on the South Side.
