Flames lose to North Catholic

By JIM RUMBLE

There seems to be a common theme in each game this year for the Northgate baseball team and it was not any different when the Flames hosted North Catholic on Wednesday.

Northgate was limited to five hits offensively and committed nine errors in the field as they were beaten soundly, 11-2.

North Catholic took advantage of a couple of base hits and a ball hit through the Flames’ left side of the diamond to lead 2-0 after the first inning.

The Trojans added another run in the second before Northgate came up big defensively in the top of the third. North Catholic singled with a runner on second trying to score, but he was called out at the plate for the third out. The first base umpire made the call, stating that the runner trying to score either had to slide into home or get around the catcher without making contact. Lengthy protests by North Catholic resulted in both a coach and player being ejected from the game for misconduct.

North Catholic added two more runs in the top of the fourth to lead 5-0.

The Trojans scored three runs in the fifth before the Flames got on the board in their half of the inning.
A double by Ben Barsh started the inning, followed by a sacrifice bunt that moved him to third before Barsh scored on a grounder to second base that put the score at 8-1.

North Catholic added three runs in the sixth and the Flames combined a base hit from Dylan Winters and a triple by Justin Mayhugh to score a run in their half of the sixth inning that put the final at 11-2
