The Northgate boys' basketball team continued to struggle this week, as the Flames dropped another three games, upping their current losing streak to 10.
Northgate lost to Seton-LaSalle 59-48 on Wednesday night, and Brentwood, 67-41, on Tuesday.
The Flames preceded those losses with another to the North Catholic Trojans on Jan. 15.
Northgate struggled to score throughout the game against the Trojans, especially in the second and third quarters, as they fell 61-29.
"North Catholic is a very, very good team," Northgate head coach Perry Harrop said. He noted that the Trojans still have a number of players from last year's team that took North Catholic all the way to the state finals .
Northgate's season-long turnover problems continued. They committed 30 turnovers in 58 possessions against North Catholic.
The Flames actually led the Trojans after the first, with points coming from Jon Girvin, Josh Douglass and Matt Garrison. Girvin hit a jumper just before time expired in the period to put Northgate up 8-7.
Northgate struggled to take care of the ball after that, committing eight turnovers in the second and another nine in the third.
During the span of the second and third quarters, the Flames were held to nine points - only two in the second quarter, coming from a jump shot by Douglass. The Trojans, on the other hand, put up 39, giving them a commanding 46-17 lead going into the final period.
The Flames turned up the dial on scoring in the fourth quarter, but North Catholic's lead was too great. Three-pointers from senior forwards Josh Haney and Josh Dunn, along with Garrison, helped trim the Trojan lead, but when time expired the Flames were still down by 32 points.
Douglass and Garrison led the team in scoring with 8 points apiece.
Northgate lost to South Fayette on Jan. 12, 86-47. Girvin had 12 points, and Douglass finished with 10.
The Flames also dropped a game to Fort Cherry on Jan. 11, 67-49. Douglass again was the lead scorer, putting up 22.
The Flames (2-11) are home tonight to face Seton LaSalle (4-9) in the second of back-to-back games against the Rebels at 7:30 p.m.
