Bellevue Council decided Tuesday to have an ordinance prepared to increase street sweeping fines, while the matter of parking meter fines and fees remains unresolved.
Council member Mark Helbling suggested a possible win-win resolution for the business district, in which meter rates would be doubled -- to 50 cents per hour from the current rate of 25 cents -- but business owners and their employees would be given the opportunity to purchase low-cost permits for one of the municipal lots. Helbling said that this actually could help free up parking on Lincoln Avenue, where business people have been parking on the street all day and feeding the meters.
