Energy savings

Emsworth Council has approved the borough’s participation in a county program that is expected to result in energy cost savings in future years.

Council member Paul Getz reported at Wednesday’s council meeting that an audit conducted of the borough’s energy use at the borough hall indicated that certain equipment could be retrofit to produce more efficient energy use -- and lower energy bills. Getz said that he had not yet received a list of exactly what work would be done, but that 75 percent of the $17,700 cost would be paid by the Allegheny County program. Duquesne Light would provide a rebate of $971, Getz said, leaving the borough to shoulder only $3,459 of the cost.

“I think it’s a good deal,” Getz said.

Getz stated that a county-wide contract for the retrofitting work had been awarded to Sargent Electric.
