Dog catcher wanted

Most of the North Boroughs are looking for animal control services this year, and officials are not too happy with their options.

Over the past few years, the municipalities have moved from contracts with Triangle Pet, which kills animals after the legal holding period has expired, to agreements with Lois Cummins of Spencer and Friends, who does not. Cummins is certified as an animal control officer.

Recently, however, Cummins notified many municipalities that she no longer would provide animal control services.

Emsworth Council member Dan Lenz said that Triangle appeared to be the borough's only option, although he was unhappy with employing the company.

Ohio Township Police Chief Beaver Micklos said that there was a possibility that another no-kill service would be started in the area, possibly through a consortium of northern municipalities.
