The death of a man whose body was discovered during a Bellevue fire has been ruled a homicide.
Mehran Memon, 22, of South Plainfield, NJ, a student at the Pittsburgh Culinary Institute, was found in his apartment at the Bellevue Mansions apartment building during a fire on May 15.
Investigators determined that the fire was deliberately set in a utility room in the Jefferson Avenue building.
According to Bellevue fire marshal Jeff Wissner, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office has determined that Memon died of carbon dioxide poisoning, the result smoke inhalation.
Allegheny County homicide detectives continue to investigate the arson and, according to Wissner, hope to make an arrest in the near future.
