Cross country runners win medals at invitational

Four members of the Avonworth cross country team picked up medals during the Grove City Cross Country Invitational on Oct. 3.

Senior captains Scott Beatty and Matt Grzywinski placed 11th and 24th respectively for the boys’ team. For the girls’ team, senior captain Molly Frew finished in 12th place, and sophomore Rachel Shenck placed 23rd.

The cross country team picked up a couple wins in the final dual meet of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 6, when the ‘Lopes hosted New Brighton and OLSH. The girls’ team beat New Brighton but fell to OLSH. Frew finished second with a personal best time at Ohio Township Community Park of 20 minutes and 18 seconds. The boys’ team scored victories over both opponents, with Grzywinski, Beatty and Nick Work finishing in the top three spots.
