Two new full-time employees were hired by Bellevue Council at its meeting Tuesday.

Council unanimously approved resolutions hiring Kathy Halligan as an administrative assistant at a pay rate of $12.50 per hour, and Diane Ross as assistant to the library director at a salary of $10 per hour.

Council also gave final approval to an ordinance setting salaries and benefits for employees for 2010. The ordinance was approved in a 5-4 vote with Linda Woshner, Jane Braunlich and james and Susan Viscusi opposed. Woshner said that some employees' were given more of a salary hike than they should have been, and she also objected to the fact that employees were not contributing to the cost of their benefits.

The borough's contract with crossing guards was extended through the end of this year. The guards will receive the same 3 percent salary increase included in the prior contract.

Finally, council approved a resolution thanking zoning hearing board member Ella Reshko for her years of service. Reshko recently resigned from the hearing board.
