Avalon snow costs

Officials in Avalon are hoping for the state to help pay for repairs and additional resources the borough brought in to assist in cleaning up the snow left behind by last week's storms.

Borough manager Harry Dilmore said that Avalon will spend $20,000-$25,000 on various rental equipment and personnel.

"We took a big blow to our budget with this storm," council member Robert Powell said at Tuesday's regular council meeting.

Because a state of emergency was declared, the borough will be able to file for some reimbursements, which Dilmore said he already has done through Allegheny County.

Dilmore noted that Avalon will not receive full reimbursement, but rather a percentage based on different formulas that the state uses, and that the money will not be coming any time soon.

Dilmore said that the borough brought in three dump trucks, four skid loaders and two different contractors to help out the street department crew.
