Arrest nets 65 bags of heroin

Avalon Police officers answering a disturbance call on South Ohio Street Oct. 10 ended up arresting a North Side man and seizing some 65 bags of suspected heroin.

Police called to the disturbance say they observed Joseph Conley of Monterrey Street in nearby Spruce Alley. Conley appeared to be intoxicated, police say, and admitted to being in possession of marijuana. When police searched him, however, they found six bundles and several loose stamp bags of suspected heroin. Police also seized a bag of suspected marijuana and a partially burned marijuana cigarette.

In other news from Avalon Police, a Bellevue woman leaving the Rusty Dory on Ohio River Boulevard on Oct. 10 reported that her purse had been snatched by a man who ran up Prospect Street.

Timothy Runco, 44, of Oakdale, was charged with resisting arrest on Oct. 9 after he reportedly became belligerent with officers who were questioning him about a reported threat he had made to blow up the East Coast House bar.

A Sylvan Avenue resident reported the theft of a leaf blower on Oct. 6.

James Peterson Jr. of Teece Avenue, Bellevue, was cited for vandalism after he reportedly broke a window at the Avalon Motel. He was located at a local hospital, where he was being treated for a hand injury received during the incident.
