The Avonworth Antelopes football team saw their overall record improve to 5-1 when they traveled to Summit Academy for a conference game last Saturday.

The 'Lopes made easy work of the winless Knights, putting the game away early on their way to a 35-8 victory. Quarterback Derek Johncour once again led the way, throwing for 288 yards and five touchdowns. Ethan Syam had four receptions for 106 yards and Turner Grau had four catches for 66 yards and two touchdowns.

Johncour got things started by completing a 34-yard TD pass to Grau, but the extra point try failed and Avonworth claimed a 6-0 lead with 7:35 left in the opening quarter.

Johncour then completed a 45-yard touchdown pass to running back Jax Miller, who also ran the ball into the end zone on the two-point conversion that put the 'Lopes ahead 14-0 with 5:26 remaining in the first quarter.

Nick Weiser got in on the action with an eight-yard touchdown catch, and Jason Novosel followed with the extra point kick that allowed the Antelopes to take a 21-0 with 2:48 left in the first quarter.

In the early stages of the second quarter, Johncour hooked up with Drew Harper on a nine-yard touchdown and Novosel tacked on the extra point, moving Avonworth to a 28-0 lead.

Johncour completed a nine-yard TD pass to Grau near the midpoint of the second quarter and followed with Novosel's kick to take an insurmountable 35-0 lead.

The mercy rule was in play during the second half, where Summit Academy finally registered a score. They got into the end zone on a three-yard run in the third quarter and succeeded with a run on the two-point try to put the final score at 35-8.
