Both local high school football teams now have 1-1 records, after Avonworth pulled out a big win over Springdale, but the Flames came up a bit short against Jefferson Morgan.
After last week's season opening loss, the Antelopes were ready to redeem themselves. In the 26-10 win, quarterback Brian Vales passed to Ryan Schmid and Michael Giampole for TDs, then ran one in himself. Ricky Lawniczak gave the night's stand-out performance, rushing for 187 yards and scoring one touchdown himself.
Down in Bellevue tonight, the Flames found themselves on the short end of a nail-biter, 13-12. Cody Walter capped a 75-yard run with the Flames' first touchdown, while QB Jon Girvin connected with Rob Jones for the second.
